So today is the 65th anniversary of the landings at Normandy. I watched the BBC broadcast today and have great respect for all that have fought and all that have died in WW2. A few years ago I went on vacation to Normandy and saw the more than 9000 white crosses of fallen U.S. soldiers in Colleville-sur-Mer. I must say it was pretty impressive. I also visited the local war museum and Arromanches. I realized that most of my peers do not know what happened at these beaches or just take it for granted that so many people have fought for our freedom. This is why I ask you to stand still by what these brave people, heroes, did for our countries.

At the age of fifteen Ray wrote his first computer program designed to process statistical data. In high school he programmed his computer in a way that it could analyze the patterns in musical
compositions and then compose a new melody from this analysis. In the 80s he built an electronic piano for Stevie Wonder. Later on he worked on the CCD flatbed scanner and the text-to-speech synthesizer.
His first book, The Age of Intelligent Machines received the award for the Most Outstanding Computer Science Book of 1990. The predictions Ray Kurzweil wrote about in 1988 went on to be pretty accurate. Among other things he talks about the emergence of the World Wide Web, which seemed quite far-fetched in the 80s. Would you ever have guessed that something like the Internet would exist?
I could go on and on about this interesting and intelligent man but I wanted to post a link to an interview Vice conducted with Ray Kurzweil. It is an accesible piece of text, so no need to know your AI stuff

McDonald’s came up with a new way of getting a lot of attention for their brand.
At Piccadilly Circus you can take pictures of yourself or your friends with the new McDonald’s sign as a backdrop resulting in some pretty neat pics!
There’s a birthday cake with candles, a bowling hat, thought bubbles with hamburgers and what not, a hammer and more. Pretty clever if you ask me to make this campaign interactive by letting people take the pictures of their friends and family. These pictures probably will be posted on social networking sites like Facebook making the reach of the campaign bigger and bigger, enabling word-of-mouth marketing.
As we know, pictures say more, so here’s a movie and the link to the Flickr page.
This interactive campaign is created by Leo Burnett, the mastermind behind a lot of McDonald’s campaigns.

You’re stuck on an island with plenty of food, a companion, and a relatively stress-free lifestyle. What do you say when the rescue ship comes?
“Wrong island, take a turn left, then right, go that way for an hour or two and you should see the island you were looking for”
Of course I’m having the greatest time of my life on the island. Don’t know how long I will be able to stay there without going crazy, but hey, for the time being! Maybe I should ask them to leave a life raft, it would provide a way out in the case of a situation in which my companion and I are reaching for each others throats. Hopefully there will be another island relatively nearby.

We all love things free!
Except for the occasional flyer with a discount code for a shop we would never visit, or the free candy at the toilets of clubs that have been sitting there for ages, neither do we appreciate the slimy kisses we get from drunken people we don’t even know.
Nevertheless, we DO love Nylon! Especially when they give access to a free issue of their magazine.
So clickeh-t-click!
